Using Blackwood you are going to be up to the 5 level immediately. With Gerber you can still stop at 4. In this case
4C 4H
and W knows they at least have all the aces and if his hearts work there are 12 tricks! He can ask for kings or go to 6H or 6NT straight away. So why do so few people use Gerber? I know that there is sometimes confusion if clubs have been bid but the gain in bidding space seems to offer so much.

I am new to bridge having only started lessons in March this year. We were taught Gerber which like you say keeps bidding lower in the A hunt. The other night I played against a couple who were playing precision and they used the 4C for ace calling then 4NT for King asking. I thought that was even better :) not sure if that has a specific name.. But could be very usefull.
