Precision 1D catchall. Maybe

This opening bid is alertable.

When queried it is often described as "11-15 HCP. Diamond may be short as one. Catchall".

However, is this sufficient if playing

    .........all variants of Precision?

The use of the "catchall" principle relies on the opposition being responsible to make themselves aware of the other opening bids in the Precision system so they can deduce what is not included in these bids, and so is, therefore, included in the 1D opening catchall. This "catchall" principle is also similarly used for other systems such as those opening a short club.

While accurate would the "11 - 15 HCP. Diamond can be short as 0/1. Catchall." description be sufficient for the following Precision variants:

    • Playing 1H/1S openings 5+ majors semi balanced or unbalanced
    • Variable strength 1NT openings depending on position and/or vulnerability
    • 2C opening 2 way multi.

It depends on how familiar the opps are with the Precision 1D

But they might think they are familiar but they aren't familiar with the particular version you play

the practical lazy person's way is to say "Precision style; would you like more detail?"
Which allows them to find out what specific detail they wish to know (such as minimum number if diamonds - which could be anything from none to 3)

But if not being lazy it won't take long to fully explain most commonly played versions
    Such as "11 - 15 points; any 2-suited or 3-suited hand without a 5-card major"
If it thought the opponents might not deduce that might mean no diamonds at all it would be, in the interest of active ethics, advisable to point out that as well
