Stratified Topurnaments

For a long time a feature in the Top of the South, we are now increasingly seeing  stratified tournaments in the Waikato and probably elsewhere too. It seems that stratified teams are based on A points, and stratified pairs on masterpoints. Does anyone know why?

Teams (and Swiss Pairs) give out A points.   Pairs can give out B points.

So the stratification is done on the rewards.  And the rich get richer.

Personally I don't see the need for this A/B split, but it matters to some of the titles.   Someone trying to create a class society IMHO.
