National Swiss Pairs Update: There WILL be bridge

This event is scheduled to take place over the weekend of March 13th/14th at the Wellington Bridge Club. As at 6th March, there are 84 pairs entered of which 17 contain at least one player from the Auckland “lockdown” area and 2 further pairs who could be affected by the “lockdown”.

The latest government lockdown announcement indicates that subject to any worsening of the current Covid situation that Auckland will move to Level 1 at the start of next weekend.

If that happens, then all Auckland players are welcome to play and the event will retain its current National title.

If Auckland does not move to Level 1 by the start of next weekend, the event will take place as scheduled but because more than 100 people will be present, Auckland players will not be allowed to take part. In that case, the event will retain its 15A Point status but will not be a National event. The National Swiss Pairs will then take place at the National Congress later in the year.

New Zealand Bridge is trying if possible, to run a quality Swiss Pairs event in Wellington next weekend. It realizes that the above situation may be too uncertain for some players, especially those from Auckland. If a pair, therefore, wishes to withdraw from the event, they may do so any time before midday Friday March 12th. If you do withdraw, please do so by email or phone to the Wellington Bridge Club (Bridget Hannaway- Willcox – Club Manager. Ph 04 972 4311   wellingtonbridge@gmail.com )

We will provide an update after the mid-week government announcement. Please ask if you have any further queries regarding the event.
