KIWIS QUALIFY FOR THE FINALS.

GOLD COAST OPEN TEAMS.

Two of the six qualifying teams contained New Zealand players. Michael Whibley – Matthew Brown are members of the McAllister team which scored 2 perfect 20’s on the final day to finish top qualifier. It looked like that position was to go to Ware but a draw and two losses in their last three matches saw them drop but still remain in the top 6 to fight another day.

Spare a thought, though, for Carter (Pat Carter- Julie Atkinson, Jenny Millington- Barry Jones). Consistent performances had seen them move up to 6^th place with one match to play. Alas for them, that was against McAlister and resulted in a 63 imp loss which saw them drop 16 places at the vital moment.

In all other categories, only the top two teams qualify for the final. Final positions in the Seniors for our Kiwis were:

INTERMEDIATE TEAMS – 102 teams

The Hajmasi team, all Auckland based, had three huge wins out of four matches on the final day to win the qualifying competition by 18.67 vp and finish 24vps ahead of 3^rd place. However, like all the finalists, they must start the final on zero knowing that their opponents are the team which inflicted one of their two losses, and the heavier one, in an otherwise excellent qualifying performance. Time for revenge!

RESTRICTED TEAMS – 104 teams

A very consistent performance by top qualifiers Bannister. Jane O’Brien and Chris Hagen are committee members of Napier/Taradale Bridge Clubs while Ian Bannister used to play at Napier before moving to Australia. In the last round, they had a small win over Stuart, thus ending their opponents’ hopes of making the final. Bowers finished in style with a perfect 20 but finished 5.5 vps short of making the final.
