Volunteer of The Month

 February 2017

Lester Clark – Milton

Hopefully, you know where Milton is and if you do, you would stop as you pass through the small town midway between Dunedin and Balclutha. There, you will find a small bridge club which affiliated in 1978.

Over the years, the club has enjoyed a steady membership of about 30. One of these is Lester Clark. The Club Secretary, Ann Phillips, speaks on behalf of the committee and all other members.

“All members are a valuable asset to any club and when we get volunteers who have dedicated time and effort above others, we believe these people deserve recognition. One of our members who fills the criteria and is a life member is Lester Clark.

Lester joined the club in 1984 and has held many office positions including President. He is one of our directors, has facilitated the learners’ classes for many years, and has always compiled the results manually until recently when we acquired the computer scoring system.

He knows almost all the history of the club, remembers most players’ bridge membership number, is the problem solver and the “go to” person.

Lester prepares the years’ programme and organises the printing. He turns the heaters on early on cold evenings, arranges the tables to suit the attendance and is willing to help with most tasks, working bees etc,

We believe Lester is a special gem in our club and the committee would like to nominate him for the Volunteer of the Month” award. “

We agree. Every club needs players like Lester. New Zealand Bridge is delighted for Lester Clark to be our “Volunteer of The Month” for February. (Please excuse us being just a little late.)

If there is a member of your Club who is a really valuable member, please ask your Club Committee to nominate that person. They may have been a long loyal servant or someone who has just performed an extremely useful one off function. All such people are very valuable. New Zealand Bridge would like to recognize such people in this monthly feature.
