Advertising by Radio

Getting media advertising for Bridge in this country is neither straightforward nor cheap. This is certainly true of advertising on television but can also be the case for the print media.

Have you or your club committee ever thought of advertising on the radio?  The programmes are national but the adverts themselves are broadcast to your local area.

It Happened in Hamilton

Earlier this year, the Hamilton Bridge Club did just that. It was not cheap, over $1000 but for that they got over 100 advertisements for bridge. The club even got some say as to what time of day the adverts would be broadcast. They advertised on Coast FM and Newstalk 1ZB.

Although they would not attribute the increased number coming to the club’s  Learners’ Classes solely to this radio advertising, it was the only thing the club did differently from other years.

Take a listen to the Hamilton advert which the club has allowed to share. It is bright, breezy and positive. Click here to listen to the Hamilton Bridge Club Radio advert

So, how about trying it for your club next year? If a four figure advertising cost seems out of the question, why not share with other clubs in your area? Most radio networks cover an area which includes more than one bridge club. All clubs can benefit.

A word of warning. Do not let the radio station bully you into the wording of the advertisement. The Hamilton Club experience was that radio station staff did not have too complimentary views of bridge players. Have your say in your advert.

So, with TV ads out of one’s price range and print media ads reliant on people looking at a particular page, why not try a different form of attack..the radio?

All ages…all types of

people listen to the radio

including those who would

like to learn Bridge. Tap in

and tell them about our game.

Ps  Notice of this has gone out to all clubs recently. However, we thought you would all like to hear about the possibility of radio advertising.
